FAYETTE CARES ACCOUNTING MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION
 
Position Title: Accounting Manager

Purpose: The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing all financial activities of Fayette Cares, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and effective management of financial resources. This position supports strategic financial planning, maintains organizational financial health, and ensures adherence to nonprofit accounting standards. The role includes planning, directing, coordinating, tracking, and evaluating day-to-day accounting and other financial activities of the agency. The Accounting Manager directs the fiscal functions of the organization in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and other regulatory and advisory organizations, applying financial management techniques appropriate to the nonprofit industry.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of accounting or finance experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, MIP Cloud) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Senior management experience in finance, accounting, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), or related disciplines preferred.
Required Knowledge:
  • Strong knowledge of accounting, audit, finance, tax, reporting, budgeting, business operations, strategic planning, FP&A.
  • Knowledge of MS Office, including Excel.
  • Knowledge of accounting and financial packages software.
  • Ability to train and supervise others.
  • Ability to develop and implement programs.
Experience Required:

Primary Functions and Key Responsibilities:
  • General Accounting Operations:
    • Manage day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and cash management.
    • Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of accounts.
  • Financial Reporting:
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
    • Assist with board reports and presentations as needed.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Support the development of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
    • Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis.
  • Grant Management:
    • Oversee grant budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance with funder requirements.
    • Track grant expenditures and ensure proper documentation.
  • Audit and Tax Filings:
    • Coordinate and manage annual audits and tax filings.
    • Prepare audit schedules and work with external auditors to ensure compliance.
  • Internal Controls and Compliance:
    • Develop and implement financial policies and internal controls to safeguard financial data.
    • Ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations and relevant tax laws.
  • Financial Analysis and Strategy Support:
    • Provide financial insights to support organizational decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Technology and Systems:
    • Maintain and optimize accounting software and financial systems.
    • Train staff on financial processes and software usage, as necessary.
  • Managing Financial Duties:
    • Manage financial accounts, payroll, budget, cash receipts, accounts payable, and financial assets.
    • Handle transactions, debts, and perform cash flow forecasting.
    • Evaluate cost data for budget planning and analysis.
    • Monitor and analyze financial accounting data to identify risks and opportunities.
    • Perform revenue and expenditure variance analysis.
    • Manage month-end and year-end closing processes.
    • Create financial and grant reports based on data analysis.
  • Audit Oversight and Compliance:
    • Direct oversight of audits and maintain proper accounting methods, policies, and principles.
    • Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions.
  • Grant Compliance and Applications:
    • Research, recommend, and assist with applications for public funds from government agencies and private foundations.
    • Ensure compliance with grant and regulatory issues, including periodic grant reporting.
  • Systems Improvement:
    • Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions.
  • Fundraiser Financial Management:
    • Plan and oversee finance-related activities at agency fundraisers, including volunteer oversight.

  • Technology: Accounting software (MIP Cloud Accounting), Business intelligence (GiveSmart - Fundraising & Donor CRM)
  • Microsoft Suite: Windows, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word
